It goes without saying the Obama-loving media are going to do everything in their power to downplay Saturday's Taxpayer March on Washington, and the New York Times is certainly living down to such expectations.

As evidence, consider the Times headline,"Thousands Rally in Capital to Protest Big Government."

Thousands?

That's certainly not how Britain's Daily Mail saw it (h/t NBer MrShy and reader Keith Brown):

Up to two million people marched to the U.S. Capitol today, carrying signs with slogans such as "Obamacare makes me sick" as they protested the president's health care plan and what they say is out-of-control spending.

The line of protesters spread across Pennsylvania Avenue for blocks, all the way to the capitol, according to the Washington Homeland Security and Emergency Management Agency.

By contrast, the Times reported:

The demonstrators numbered well into the tens of thousands, though the police declined to estimate the size of the crowd.

Which outlet do you think is reporting this more accurately?

If your answer is the Mail, why would a British outlet better estimate the size of this crowd than one of the leading American papers?

Yes, that's a rhetorical question.

Thinking about these and other statements made by the man who wears the title of president. I keep wondering what country he believes he's president of.

In one of my very favorite stories, Edward Everett Hale's "The Man without a Country," a young Army lieutenant named Philip Nolan stands condemned for treason during the Revolutionary War, having come under the influence of Aaron Burr. When the judge asks him if he wishes to say anything before sentence is passed, young Nolan defiantly exclaims, "Damn the United States ! I wish I might never hear of the United States again!"

The stunned silence in the courtroom is palpable, pulsing. After a long pause, the judge soberly says to the angry lieutenant: "You have just pronounced your own sentence. You will never hear of the United States again.. I sentence you to spend the rest of your life at sea, on one or another of this country's naval vessels - under strict orders that no one will ever speak to you again about the country you have just cursed."

And so it was. Philip Nolan was taken away and spent the next 40 years at sea, never hearing anything but an occasional slip of the tongue about America. The last few pages of the story, recounting Nolan's dying hours in his small stateroom - now turned into a shrine to the country he fore swore - never fail to bring me to tears. And I find my own love for this dream, this miracle called America , refreshed and renewed. I know how blessed and unique we are.

But reading and hearing the audacious, shocking statements of the man who was recently elected our president - a young black man living the impossible dream of millions of young Americans, past and present, black and white - I want to ask him, "Just what country do you think you're president of?"

You surely can't be referring to the United States of America , can you? America is emphatically a Christian nation, and has been from its inception! Seventy percent of her citizens identify themselves as Christian. The Declaration of Independence and our Constitution were framed, written and ratified by Christians. It's because this was, and is, a nation built on and guided by Judeo-Christian biblical principles that you, sir, have had the inestimable privilege of being elected her president.

You studied law at Harvard, didn't you, sir? You taught constitutional law in Chicago ? Did you not ever read the statement of John Jay, the first Chief Justice of the Supreme Court and an author of the landmark "Federalist Papers": "Providence has given to our people the choice of their rulers - and it is the duty, as well as the privilege and interest of our Christian nation - to select and prefer Christians for their rulers"?

In your studies, you surely must have read the decision of the Supreme Court in 1892: "Our lives and our institutions must necessarily be based upon and embody the teachings of the Redeemer of mankind. It is impossible that it should be otherwise; and in this sense and to this extent our civilization and our institutions are emphatically Christian."

Did your professors have you skip over all the high-court decisions right up till the mid 1900's that echoed and reinforced these views and intentions? Did you pick up the history of American jurisprudence only in 1947, when for the first time a phrase coined by Thomas Jefferson about a "wall of separation between church and state" was used to deny some specific religious expression - contrary to Jefferson' s intent with that statement?

Or, wait a minute . were your ideas about America 's Christianity formed during the 20 years you were a member of the Trinity United Church of Christ under your pastor, Jeremiah Wright? Is that where you got the idea that " America is no longer a Christian nation"? Is this where you, even as you came to call yourself a Christian, formed the belief that " America has been arrogant"?

Even if that's the understandable explanation of your damning of your country and accusing the whole nation (not just a few military officials trying their best to keep more Americans from being murdered by jihadists) of "not always living up to her ideals," how did you come up with the ridiculous, alarming notion that we might be "considered a Muslim nation"?

Is it because there are some 2 million or more Muslims living here, trying to be good Americans? Out of a current population of over 300 million, 70 percent of whom are Christians? Does that make us, by any rational definition, a "Muslim nation"?

Why are we not, then, a "Chinese nation"? A "Korean nation"? Even a "Vietnamese nation"? There are even more of these distinct groups in America than Muslims. And if the distinction you're trying to make is a religious one, why is America not "a Jewish nation"? There's actually a case to be made for the latter, because our Constitution - and the success of our Revolution and founding - owe a deep debt to our Jewish brothers.

Have you stopped to think what an actual Muslim America would be like? Have you ever really spent much time in Iran? Even in Egypt? You, having been instructed in Islam as a kid at a Muslim school in Indonesia and saying you still love the call to evening prayers, can surely picture our nation founded on the Quran, not the Judeo-Christian Bible, and living under Shariah law. Can't you? You do recall Muhammad's directives [Surah 9:5,73] to "break the cross" and "kill the infidel"?

It seems increasingly and painfully obvious that you are more influenced by your upbringing and questionable education than most suspected. If you consider yourself the president of a people who are "no longer Christian," who have "failed to live up to our ideals," who "have been arrogant," and might even be "considered Muslim" - you are president of a country most Americans don't recognize.

Could it be you are a president without a country?

Morgan Shepherd- Faith on a Shoestring

CONOVER, N.C. - Morgan Shepherd is the Last Man Standing, a relic of a stock-car racing era that is long gone but one he refuses to abandon.

He races on a wing and – literally – a prayer, a 67-year-old man who could be the grandfather of the frisky youngsters he chases in the Nationwide Series. He was born, for Pete’s sake, during the war (not Persian Gulf, not Vietnam, not even Korea – World War II).

He hasn’t been in real danger of winning a race – any race – since the mid-1990s, but he races on largely because it’s what he does and it’s all he knows and the opportunity is there and because there’s a bigger mission in the foundation.

He gets by with a little help from his friends.

Eldora Speedway, Tony Stewart’s half-mile dirt oval in Rossburg, Ohio, is the most recognizable sponsor on Shepherd’s Nationwide cars, and that’s mainly because Stewart himself is the real sponsor. Shepherd rides largely because Stewart puts tires under him. The tire bill goes straight to Stewart, a generous guy who could choose to support virtually any other struggling racer but chose to invest his money in Shepherd, if for no other reason than his doggedness.

“It’s Morgan’s determination,” Stewart says. “He has been around here a long time. He’s one of those guys that’s still doing everything he can do to stay a part of it. There’s hundreds of thousands of people who could come here and try to race and appreciate the same help, but Morgan’s been here and done it.

“He has paid his dues. He has done things the hard way. I guess I just respect his effort. Here’s a guy that could go do something else, but this is what he loves to do and wants to continue to do it. You hate to see somebody struggle, so we decided to try to help.”

Stewart also has helped Shepherd with engines, and fellow Cup driver Kevin Harvick has pitched in with a car and parts.

It has made a big difference for Shepherd, who races from a woebegone little shop in Conover with only a handful of full-time mechanics.

“I’ll be riding down the road, and all of a sudden tears come in my eyes just thinking about it,” Shepherd says. “Why would those guys care about helping me? I’m sure they could figure out better things they could do with their money. It’s not just because I’ve been in the sport so long and don’t give up. It has to be a God thing. I let them know that there’s never a day that goes by that I don’t wear the Lord out for both of them.”

Shepherd sees such encounters as proof that he’s in the right business. He has no delusions about winning five races a year or competing for championships, but he wants to race, not embarrass himself or those who support him and use his driving to spread the word about his strong Christian faith.

“A lot of people ask me if I’ve thought about retiring,” Shepherd said. “I don’t make plans. If I was out there running into the wall, taking people out, making a lot of mistakes, I’d look at my ability to drive a race car. But I can’t tell any difference in the driving part from 10 years ago. If I start missing my lines, I’ll know.

“I know I’ve kept in it a lot more years than most people do. But a lot of that is because of the passion I have for the sport. This is the only thing I know how to do in life. I don’t know anything but cars.”

Shepherd’s story isn’t exactly rags-to-riches, but it is one of the more unusual in the history of NASCAR racing. He lacks a formal education, but he basically trained himself in the ways and means of automobile mechanics.

He got a motorbike when he was 10 years old and soon had torn it apart to see how it worked. At 12, he traded three squirrels, a shotgun and $12.50 for a 1937 Chevrolet and launched into serious car tinkering. A year or so later, he knew enough to rebuild engines in the hot rods owned by local high school boys.

The natural progression was to get involved in auto racing, and that journey landed Shepherd in NASCAR’s top series full time in 1981 (he ran a few races in 1970, 1977 and 1978), and he was a race winner that first full season in cars owned by Cliff Stewart (no relation to Tony).

From there, Shepherd bounced from ride to ride, most notably driving for Bud Moore Engineering and Wood Brothers Racing. He won a total of four Cup races, the last win coming in 1993.

As Shepherd was getting older, racing was getting younger. Teams and sponsors valued youth and smiling faces over experience, and Shepherd found himself struggling to keep racing and to keep his bottom line from swimming in red ink.

He went through a series of financial struggles – and almost as many marriages. His fifth and current wife, Cindy, helped to bring stability to his life and has been his partner in keeping his racing and his ministry alive. They married in 1994.

“When my [fourth] wife left me, I’d finally had it with women,” Shepherd said. “We had been married for nine years, but it just wasn’t good. She finally left. I didn’t even want to see any women. Six months later, a friend called and said he had a girl he wanted me to meet. I didn’t need any more troubles. I had had all the troubles I needed with women. My life with women had not been very good. I had had only one good wife, and that was my first one, and I treated her like a dog. I was a drunk back then, and I always felt like when I got remarried I paid for everything I had done to her.

“But I met Cindy, and we went to dinner and went out a few times. I brought her to a race at Watkins Glen. We kept getting closer and closer. I saw her as genuine.”

They live in Conover in a house across the street from Shepherd’s shop.

“She is a sore loser,” Shepherd said. “She makes it hard on me when things go bad. It kills her when things go wrong. She’s hard to be around when things happen.”

There is CindyWife, and then there is CindyDaughter. This distinction must be made, because Cindy Caldwell is Shepherd’s office manager and also his child from a previous marriage. She pays the bills, pursues sponsors, coordinates Shepherd’s ministry activities and, until recently, stepped out of her small office (located adjacent to Shepherd’s home) several times a day so that the team’s mechanics could visit the office restroom. Before recent renovations, the team shop did not have a restroom.

This is the sort of problem that Jimmie Johnson and Chad Knaus don’t deal with on a daily basis.

It’s fairly normal, though, for Shepherd, who juggles his budget from week to week. He drives his motorhome himself and does the final prep on his race cars.

Around Conover, he drives a green 1996 Nissan pickup with an odometer that reads 220,990. It has had a long road, as has Shepherd.

In the shop, stacked willy-nilly on neglected and dusty shelves, is a collection of Shepherd’s racing trophies, including the winner’s award from his last victory in 1993 at Atlanta. It’s stuck up there, right over the old and apparently retired Maytag washing machine.

More important to Shepherd than his dusty archives is his ministry work and fundraising for the Morgan Shepherd Charity Fund, which assists needy families, primarily in southern Virginia, where Shepherd has participated in a Christmas Santa Claus train gift delivery run for 23 years.

“I was real down and out at the end of last season because we missed three races in a row there,” Shepherd said. “I ran into Carl Edwards after the race in Homestead and was congratulating him. I gave him some brochures about our charity and told him how we started off with one person in 1986 and how we’ll be helping a couple thousand up in the mountains this year. When we finished talking, he said he was going to help us with $25,000. I grabbed him and hugged him and shook his hand. That changed my whole trip up the road.”

Shepherd’s charity and ministry work are likely to continue as long as he’s reasonably vertical. The racing?

“I’m still just as passionate as I ever was about it,” he said. “It’s all good.”

Apparently, Claire McCaskill of Missouri has decided to cancel an upcoming town hall meeting on healthcare citing "safety concerns". It appears that the latest tactic of liberal congressmen is to use this excuse to avoid any negative input from citizens over the Obama health plan.

What is also becoming clear is that Obama is using his Acorn and Union thugs to infiltrate these events to either prevent free speech or to incite violence. This is in line with the Black Panther thugs who stood in front of a polling station in Philadelphia on election day and whom the Justice Department refused to prosecute.

One attendee at Russ Carnaham event reported the following:

“The nation’s largest federation of labor organizations has promised to directly engage with boisterous conservative protesters at Democratic town halls during the August recess.”

As a result, the townhall meeting with Russ Carnahan last night had union thugs preventing ordinary citizens from entering the building where he was speaking - with only union members being let in via a side door.

Consequently, area citizens were not only denied entry, but were beaten by these thugs - several taken to the hospital.

Mr. Wagman seems to infer that conservative individuals are responsible for this statement:

“Although what the move portends for democracy — that citizens can’t gather for a public forum without fears of descending into fisticuffs? — may be up for debate.”

Let me know who is engaging in ‘fisticuffs’ at these meetings; it’s certainly not those who have honest concerns about healthcare issues and desire to engage in their right to free speech…

Today I read a story about a woman who is selling her TV's because every time she turns one on Obama is "everywhere".

I wrote about this in a post some time ago, but I had no idea how bad this has gotten. It does seem like POTUS is on TV a lot. Sometimes, I eat in at lunch and will flip on the tube. I can't tell you how many times he seems to interrupt the lunch break with a speech about something of urgent importance. Whether its a town hall or an evening press conference, Obama and his teleprompter seem to be everywhere.

There is such a thing as overexposure. Obama's problem is that he does not have a good grasp on the issues. Like the campaign, he speaks in generalities and this was shown in his health care press conference last week. And it seems that folks are starting to get a glimpse of this because of Obama's lack of competence on important issues.

So, I have mixed feelings about selling my TV. After all, this would mean that I could not watch NASCAR, something that Obama has not managed to socialize as of yet. Socialized NASCAR...what would that look like, but I digress.

And if he keeps having news conferences, perhaps this alone will help defeat his socialist agenda as people find out he has no clue what he is doing.

So perhaps this lady should keep her TV, and the Nation should get a new president.

Carroll woman's answer to highly visible Obama: Selling her televisions

A 78-year-old Carroll woman says she's so tired of seeing President Barack Obama on the airwaves that she's selling her television sets - two of them.

Deloris Nissen, a retired nurses' aide and former Kmart employee who was raised on a farm near Audubon, placed a classified advertisement with The Daily Times Herald for Friday's paper.

In the $5.50 ad, Nissen tells readers she has two television sets for sale.

The reason: "Obama on every channel and station."

In an interview Nissen said she is serious about selling two TVs - and genuine about her disgust with what she believes to be an overexposed president.

"I just got tired of watching him on every channel," Nissen said. "I thought, my gosh, does he ever stay at the White House?"

Nissen, who voted for U.S. Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., in the 2008 presidential election, said she could live with seeing Obama come on television to make serious announcements. But he seems to be on all the time, Nissen said.

When the president does appear on a channel she happens to be watching, Nissen said, she quickly turns.

"I have the remote real handy," Nissen said. "I have the batteries. I'm ready for him."

Nissen's annoyance with the president as a frequent presence on her television doesn't mean she'll abandon the medium altogether.

She's keeping a bigger flat-screen television and selling an older 20-inch Sony and possibly a 13-inch set.

"It's too heavy," Nissen said of the 20-inch TV. "I can't handle it anymore."

That said, she doesn't plan on selling it for less than $100 - even if Obama was just on Tuesday pitching his health-care-reform plans.

Obama's own advisers and political observers across the ideological spectrum have for months debated whether the now popular president is overexposed.

For her part, Nissen said she expects to take some flack for the advertisement in her local paper. After all, Obama did win Iowa and Carroll County in the 2008 election.

But she's not worried about any criticism.

"I'm an old lady, and I don't care," Nissen said.

MacBook, Geek Squad, and Extended Warranties

Two years ago, I bought a Mac. I really enjoy my Mac a lot, primarily because it is not burdened by the excessive virus attacks that plague PC's. When I bought it, I got the extended warranty at Best Buy.

My experience with computers is that extended warranties have paid off. Some experts would disagree but I have made claims under each extended warranty I have ever purchased, on one I made two claims.

Last week a horrible thing happened. My hard drive crashed on my Mac.

DRATS!

So, I paid a visit to the Geek Squad to have it looked at. My assigned Geek took my Mac to the back returning shortly to inform me that I had spilled something on my Mac and that the RAM was corroded. He proceeded to show me the RAM, which did not show evidence of anything, then told me that this is not covered under my extended warranty.

Well, the Geek made a couple of mistakes up front. First, he copped a bad attitude with me. Second, he assumed that something was spilled on it which DID NOT happen. And third, he declared that my warranty which cost me some big time kwan, was worthless. He then offered to send it to Apple, but he assured me that they would refuse to cover the repair. What wonderful service!

So, I left the store thinking about my choices. Buy a new Mac? Send it off and wait weeks for a "no" answer? Invest a ton of dough to have it fixed?

I decided to go by the Apple store to get their opinion. I met a great sales person named Joe who listened to my quandary and suggested that I let them take a look at it for free and provide a second opinion. So I did.

I retrieved my Mac and had Joe take a look. Joe immediately told me that nothing had been spilled on my Mac- no corrosion. Wow, what a surprise! He then hooked an external drive to it to bypass the internal drive and it worked just fine. Diagnosis-the hard drive crashed which is covered under the warranty. All this at no charge.

So I took it back to my assigned Geek and explained what Joe the Apple guy told me. My Geek then shipped the Mac with the proper diagnosis.

So what did I learn? Well, the Geek squad guys are are more Geek than Tech. My extended warranty will pay off again, unless something unforeseen happens. And, the guys over at the Apple store are extremely helpful folks.

So if you buy a Mac, skip the Geeks and go to the Apple store. And consider the extended warranty.

Smooth it Over with a Beer

The Henry Gates crisis has really blown up in the face of Obama. First he says he doesn't know much about it. Then he proceeds to call the Cambridge cops "stupid". Then he acts surprised that this is such a big deal. Then he apologizes, something that he is profoundly good at.

So when all else fails, invite the two main characters over to the White House for a Beer to smooth the whole thing over. That's right, substitute alcohol for good judgement. When the race card blows up, smooth it over with a nice, tall, cold brewski.

The Gates issue is one of political correctness gone amok. I will agree that blacks in this country have gotten a bad deal in the past. I also agree that there is a predisposition by many whites that all blacks are criminals. That isn't fair to those black folks who work hard everyday to be just good, honest folks. But so far, I can't see where anyone except Gates and Obama saw this as an issue of race.

The neighbor who called the cops never said the perpetrators were black. The three cops who responded were white, black and hispanic. The black cop stated that Gates acted inappropriately. And it was Gates who injected race into the matter at the beginning.

The President automatically assumed that the cops were racists, i.e stupid. So does his judgement, especially as the country's leader, serve to correct the false assumptions of racist whites?

I don't think so.

This country needs leadership that uses sound judgement and the predisposition to judge character rather than race, as the basis for achievement.

The woman whose report of a possible house break-in led to the arrest of Harvard professor Henry Louis Gates Jr. said she never mentioned race during her 911 call and is “personally devastated’’ by media accounts that suggest she placed the call because the men she observed on the porch were black, according to a lawyer acting as her spokeswoman.

The woman, identified in a police report on file in Cambridge District Court as 40-year-old Lucia Whalen, saw the backs of both men and did not know their race when she called 911, said Wendy J. Murphy, a Boston lawyer from New England School of Law. Whalen phoned police, Murphy said, because she was aware of recent break-ins in the area.

In an interview last night, Cambridge Police Commissioner Robert C. Haas said it was ac curate that Whalen did not mention race in her 911 call. He acknowledged that a police report of the incident did include a race reference. The report says Whalen observed “what appeared to be two black males with backpacks on the front porch’’ of a Ware Street home on July 16.

That reference is there, said Haas, because the police report is a summary. Its descriptions - like the race of the two men - were collected during the inquiry, not necessarily from the initial 911 call, he said.

The events of July 16 - when Gates was arrested at his home for disorderly conduct by Police Sergeant James Crowley, who responded to the 911 call - remain a matter of discussion, even as both sides seek to put the issue to rest. Tapes made during the incident may illuminate some of what happened.

Hass said yesterday that he expects some version of the tapes to be released in the next few days.

Race has become the central concern in what began as a report of a possible break-in. Whalen, walking from her office nearby, grew suspicious when she saw two men trying to force open the door of the home, according to the report.

The two men turned out to be Gates, who was unable to open his front door, and his driver, who assisted Gates in opening the door and left.

“People are making their own judgments about the case and assuming that she called police because they were black,’’ Murphy said yesterday in a telephone interview. “That sentiment is permeating the stories, and it ties directly to her involvement, even though the truth is she didn’t report seeing black men and she didn’t know the men’s race when she called 911.’’

In an interview at police headquarters last night, Haas said “it was very clear that she wasn’t sure’’ what the men’s race was. He also said that when the dispatcher questioned Whalen for more details, she told police she could only guess about the race of the two men. “She speculated . . . that one might be Hispanic.’’

Haas, who learned about Whalen’s statement from a Globe reporter yesterday, said last night that he could not immediately pin down the point in time when the race of the men became known to the officers.

Gates later suggested that his arrest on disorderly conduct charges was because he is black. Crowley, the officer who made the arrest after the two exchanged words, has maintained that race was not a factor. The disorderly conduct charges were dropped, but not before the incident garnered worldwide attention.

President Obama waded into the conflict last week, saying Cambridge police “acted stupidly’’ in arresting Gates, and noting that black and Hispanic men are still arrested disproportionately. He later initiated an effort at conciliation, with Gates and Crowley planning to meet the president at the White House to talk it out over beers.

Haas yesterday also said he shares Gates’s view that it is time for his department, the city, and the nation to move on from the incident while still searching for the teachable moment.

“July 16 is a painful moment for all of us,’’ the commissioner said. “We need to move on. If we focus back on July 16, we are not going to make any progress.’’

Haas said he won’t be in the White House when Gates, Crowley, and the president gather for their beers - and he is fine with that.

“I haven’t been invited,’’ Haas said. “I think the president has much heavier issues on his mind, not that this isn’t important.’’

Haas called the conciliatory statements Obama made Friday “extremely gracious.’’

Crowley is expected to return to work today, according to the commissioner, who said he stands by the sergeant. He considered Crowley a “stellar officer’’ before July 16 and that assessment, he said, “hasn’t changed.’’

Haas said he wants the city to quickly release transcripts and tapes of the 911 calls and of the officers as they were on the scene at Gates’s house.

“It would help us a lot if the tapes could get released,’’ Haas said, adding that the decision is being made by the city’s lawyers and manager, not his department.

One issue that has slowed down the release, he said, is concern over Whalen’s privacy rights, given that her 911 call would be played by the media nationwide. He said some form of the calls will be released - possibly just transcripts - in the next few days.

But Murphy said her client backs having the 911 tapes released immediately.

“She has no objection,’’ Murphy said.

“The police concern is legitimate because it comes from her initial concern they not release her name. But since that couldn’t be done, her concern about privacy has passed.’’

Whalen has for more than 15 years worked for Harvard in an office about 100 yards from Gates’s home, according to Murphy. “For her to be characterized as the racist spark that fueled the fire is just utterly, 100 percent wrong,’’ Murphy said.

The Globe was unable to reach Whalen yesterday. Murphy said her client did not want to speak to the media.

Evidence of a Bad Week

The latest Rassusen approval index is out and Obama has reached a new low. The index is now -11% of likely voters who strongly support vs strongly disapprove of the President's performance. To put this in perspective, the President's approval index was +30% at the begiining of his term. This is a 41 point nosedive.

So, should those of us who do not support the President's policies gloat? Gloat- no; however, this does confirm that what many of us said about his lack of qualifications, experience, and ideology are contrary to what we beleive is in the best interest of America.

This pole should cause Obama to rethink his policies, perhaps move closer to the mainstream of America, and really make changes that will help the country. However, I believe he is so blinded by a liberal, socialist idology that he will not, perhaps, cannot do that.

And that's bad news for America.

Obama Goes on Vacation

I took the week off this week. But, because my wife lost her job due to the Obama economy, we decided not to go anywhere and just hang around town.

This morning I learned that Obama is taking yet another vacation this weekend to a fancy-schmancy farm at Martha's Vineyard at a cost of $20,000 to $50,000 per week, not including all the other costs associated with the President going on vacation.

Sure, Barry has had a bad week. His socialized healthcare bill in the House is not doing so well; his approval rating dropped below 50%; and his approval index rating is now at -8%; and worst of all he played the race card regarding the Gates arrest in Cambridge calling the cops "stupid", assuming a black Harvard professor must be right and the cops must be wrong, even though he said he did not know the details.

So, after such a bad week let's go on vacation! Of course!

The hypocrisy of this man is overwhelming. He spends the week playing both the race card and the class warfare card then takes a vacation, on our dime, to a place that most of us could never afford to visit.

I have always believed that Obama is not qualified to be president. And so far, everything he has done- raising taxes; cap and trade (raising taxes}; bailouts; socializing autos, banks, insurance companies; and now healthcare, yada, yada, yada has gone directly into the face of sound economic judgement not to mention the constitution of the United States. Yet, despite his socialist ideology he has no problem spending the taxpayer dime on his personal pleasure.

This is typical of the hypocrisy of left wing ideologues who take power. They will not lack for anything. Yet, they have no problem playing the "card" that they believe will get them the poll numbers. If a republican president took a vacation during these difficult times the liberal press would be absolutely foaming at the mouth. Yet Barry gets the pass.

Obama is an arrogant, hypocritical ideologue. Yet despite all his hypocrisy, he will never suffer under the results of his socialized America. You may have lost your job. Barry's doing just fine. You may get Obamacare. Barry will have the best healthcare in the world. You will be taxed for your hard work and initiative. Barry will continue to receive the perks. Is there a pattern here?

I am sitting here listening to Obama talk about healthcare reform.

He is listing all these groups who are behind the plan and he is MISREPRESENTING support for the House bill. Doctors don't support it. Pharma does not support it. Health Insurance companies do not support it.

Americans don't support it.

Then he says that he wants the bill to be "right" or he won't sign it. I guess that means as long as "right" comes by end of July.

He just mentioned "single payer". AHA, that's where his heart is.

He was just asked about what americans will have to give up. His answer is that they will have to give up care that does not work. Well, how will he handle medical malpractice? He said the system does not incentivize savings. Well has he heard of step therapy in pharmaceuticals?

When will he stop pointing to Bush's deficits? He has no credibility on deficits. NONE... His projections of future deficits are based upon projections of growth NEXT year. So far, it ain't looking like we are going to see growth next year. He needs to stop talking about what he inherited and worry about what our CHILDREN will inherit because of his socialism.

What are the Medicare cuts? He just said that changes will not come in medicare cuts but in how services are delivered. That is not what he has said in the past.

He was asked about transparency. He just said his kickoff event was on CSPAN. Remember, the one where they solved healthcare in two hours? And he just put the committee meetings on the backs of congress...pass the blame.

He has the gall to talk about unsound bank loans...remember the community reinvestment act? The one he used to help prosecute banks to make them make risky loans when he was a "community organizer"?

He was asked if congress would fall under the public option. He says the public option will follow the same structure as the plan congress falls under. RIGHT! I wonder if Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid are aware of that? He just said that he would not be under the same plan because he is the President.

No wonder President Obama is in such a rush to get his health care reform package through Congress before the August recess. And before the public finds out about Ezekiel Emanuel, special advisor to Peter Orzag, Obama's director of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), and brother to White House chief of staff Rahm Emanuel.

Emanuel has written in medical journals of how health care should be rationed, with priority given to younger people over seniors and over those suffering from dementia, according to John Goodman, president of the National Center for Policy Analysis (NCPA). Ezekiel also believes that very young children should be lower on the priority list than younger people who have received public educations.

Goodman cites an article Ezekiel co-authored with two other men that appeared in the January 31, 2009, edition of the British medical journal, The Lancet. Goodman also cites a 1996 article by Ezekiel that appeared in The Hastings Report. In the latter, which was titled "Where civic republicanism and deliberative democracy meet," Ezekiel argued for limiting health care for “individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens.” He cited "not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia” as an example.

Goodman offers additional analysis on his blog of Ezekiel's presence among Obama's health care advisors. Goodman notes that the health care reform legislation now being crafted in Congress includes a provision designed to ration the availability of MRI, CT and other advanced technology scans that often are critical to identifying dangerous diseases at a sufficiently early stage to enable life-extending treatment:

“An example of what can be done is actually in legislation being written on Capitol Hill. Buried somewhere in the 1,000 plus pages is a provision to severely limit what Medicare pays for CT and MRI scans performed in doctors' offices. This would force elderly patients, for example, to go to the hospital for their radiology — where there are often lengthy waits. Patients in rural areas who must travel long distances to get to hospital-based testing facilities may be discouraged from getting the tests done at all.”

“individuals who are irreversibly prevented from being or becoming participating citizens.” Emanuel wrote, “An obvious example is not guaranteeing health services to patients with dementia.”

Goodman notes that the World Health Organization estimates that 25,000 cancer patients die in Britain annually as a result of such restrictions on medical scans.

Tonight he goes on TV to push the bill, yet he can't answer a question so basic as this? Let's get real. Obama wants a single payer government run healthcare system. He wants to include funding for abortion in it. He wants to end private insurance. He will limit services to Senior citizens, i.e. euthanasia. He will tax you to do this. It will hurt small business. And it will be a job killer.

Obama Admits He’s “Not Familiar” With House Bill

With the public’s trust in his handling of health care tanking (50%-44% of Americans disapprove), the White House has launched a new phase of its strategy designed to pass Obamacare: all Obama, all the time. As part of that effort, Obama hosted a conference call with leftist bloggers urging them to pressure Congress to pass his health plan as soon as possible.

During the call, a blogger from Maine said he kept running into an Investors Business Daily article that claimed Section 102 of the House health legislation would outlaw private insurance. He asked: “Is this true? Will people be able to keep their insurance and will insurers be able to write new policies even though H.R. 3200 is passed?” President Obama replied: “You know, I have to say that I am not familiar with the provision you are talking about.”

This is a truly disturbing admission by the President, especially considering that later in the call, Obama promises yet again: “If you have health insurance, and you like it, and you have a doctor that you like, then you can keep it. Period.” How can Obama keep making this promise if he is not familiar with the health legislation that is being written in Congress? Details matter.

We are familiar with the passage IBD sites, and as we wrote last week, the House bill does not outright outlaw private individual health insurance, but it does effectively regulate it out of existence. The House bill does allow private insurance to be sold, but only “Exchange-participating health benefits plans.” In order to qualify as an Exchange-participating health benefits plan, all health insurance plans must conform to a slew of new regulations, including community rating and guaranteed issue. These will all send the cost of private individual health insurance skyrocketing. Furthermore, all these new regulations would not apply just to individual insurance plans, but to all insurance plans. So the House bill will also drive up the cost of your existing employer coverage as well. Until, of course, it becomes so expensive that your company makes the perfectly economical decision to dump you into the government plan.

President Obama may not care to study how many people will lose their current health insurance if his plan becomes law, but like most Americans, we do. That is why we partnered with the Lewin Group to study how many Americans would be forced into the government “option” under the House health plan. Here is what we found:

Approximately 103 million people would be covered under the new public plan and, as a consequence, about 83.4 million people would lose their private insurance. This would represent a 48.4 percent reduction in the number of people with private coverage.

About 88.1 million workers would see their current private, employer-sponsored health plan go away and would be shifted to the public plan.

Yearly premiums for the typical American with private coverage could go up by as much as $460 per privately-insured person, as a result of increased cost-shifting stemming from a public plan modeled on Medicare.

It is truly frightening that the President of the United States is pressuring Congress in an all-out media blitz to pass legislation that he flatly admits he has not read and is not familiar with. President Obama owes it to the American people to stop making promises about what his health plan will or will not do until he has read it, and can properly defend it in public, to his own supporters.

Thanks to a steep drop from conservative and moderate Democrats, a plurality of Americans (49%-47%) now disapprove of President Obama’s handling of the economy.

The Mayo Clinic on the House health bill: “Although there are some positive provisions in the current House Tri-Committee bill … the proposed legislation misses the opportunity to help create higher-quality, more affordable health care for patients. In fact, it will do the opposite. … The real losers will be the citizens of the United States.”

According to Wall Street Bailout watchdog Neil Barofsky, the Obama Treasury Department has refused to give, or seek, answers about the use of bailout funds, while the total bailout commitment of the federal government has risen to $23 trillion.

White House misses deadline on spending cuts report

Obama missed his own deadline to cut a measly $100,000,000 from the Federal budget. So, they can pass a $700 billion stimulus package, but they can't manage to cut $100,000,000.

WASHINGTON (CNN) -- On April 20, President Obama challenged his Cabinet to cut $100 million in spending over the next 90 days.

The deadline came -- and went -- without a report from the White House on whether or not that promise was fulfilled.

Asked about the spending cuts, White House spokesman Robert Gibbs said Monday that information still was being compiled.

"Those are being reviewed now, and we'll release something in the coming days," Gibbs told the daily White House briefing.

At time the challenge was announced, critics said $100 million in savings was a small amount on the context of the federal budget.

"Any amount of savings is obviously welcome," Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Kentucky, said in April. "But [$100 million is] about the average amount we'll spend every single day just covering the interest on the stimulus package that we passed earlier this year."

In April, Gibbs insisted that ordinary Americans nevertheless would appreciate the savings effort.

"Only in Washington, D.C., is $100 million not a lot of money," Gibbs said.

The issue is a sensitive one for Obama at a time of fierce Republican criticism about increased government spending for the economic stimulus plan.

Republicans also oppose health care reform proposals by Democrats that would cost $1 trillion or more over the next 10 years.

Obama is pushing for fast congressional action on a health care overhaul.

The Treasury Department said on Monday that June marked the ninth straight month in which the government had run a deficit. In June 2008, the budget enjoyed a $33.55 billion surplus.

Through the first nine months of fiscal 2009, the government has racked up a $1.086 trillion deficit. That compares with a shortfall of only $285.85 billion in the comparable year-ago period, underscoring the sharp deterioration in the U.S. fiscal picture.

Excited Utterance- The Sotomayor Nomination

In the law, there is a principle known as the "excited utterance". It has to do with the rules of evidence and basically says that when someone blurts out a phrase that it holds a greater weight in terms of truth than other types of utterances that offer the opportunity to twist the truth because of the ability to craft words. Today at her confirmation hearings, the judge attempted to convince senators that she really did not mean what she said when she spoke about the superiority of Latina judgement.

Here is what Judge Sotomayor said:

Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences, a possibility I abhor less or discount less than my colleague Judge Cedarbaum, our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging. Justice O'Connor has often been cited as saying that a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases. I am not so sure Justice O'Connor is the author of that line since Professor Resnik attributes that line to Supreme Court Justice Coyle. I am also not so sure that I agree with the statement. First, as Professor Martha Minnow has noted, there can never be a universal definition of wise. Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life.

Now, how are we to take this statement? The circumstances under which it was made were quite different than those of today. If any white male nominee made such a statement his nomination would be toast.

This is the hypocrisy of the left. They sit in judgement of anyone not in a minority protected class who makes even the slightest inference of racism. Yet, reverse racism gets a pass. It is not only allowed, it is encouraged. And, it is considered a badge of honor.

So I guess the two things we know about Sotomayor is that she is a reverse racist and is empathetic.

I don't find either of these an acceptable attribute for a supreme court justice with a lifetime appointment.

Ten people were injured, two of them seriously, in the Pamplona bull run on Sunday, two days after a man was gored to death by a bull, according to revised figures issued by organisers.
The two most badly hurt were Spanish men who suffered injuries to the neck, chest and buttocks after being gored, a spokesman said.

He added that doctors were confident their lives would be saved after surgery.

Two more Spaniards were gored in the chest and buttocks during the run and five other Spaniards were taken to hospital after sustaining various injuries.

A 21-year-old Englishman was also taken to hospital after being injured in the back by one of the bull guides, men armed with poles which they use to stop people getting to close to the animals.

An earlier statement issued by the authorities, had spoken of 11 injured, but that was revised down in a later statement.

Voters now trust Republicans more than Democrats on eight out of 10 key electoral issues, including, for the second straight month, the top issue of the economy. They've also narrowed the gap on the remaining two issues, the traditionally Democratic strong suits of health care and education.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey finds that voters trust the GOP more on economic issues 46% to 41%, showing little change from the six-point lead the party held last month. This is just the second time in over two years of polling the GOP has held the advantage on economic issues. The parties were close on the issue in May, with the Democrats holding a one-point lead.

Voters not affiliated with either party trust Republicans more to handle the economy by a 46% to 32% margin.
Last week’s report of 9.5 percent unemployment, the highest since 1983, raised doubts about the economy and the president's handling of it. Consumer and investor confidence is now down to the lowest levels in three months. Just 39% now say President Obama is doing a good or an excellent job on the economy while 43% rate his performance as poor. Those are by far the weakest numbers yet for the president.

The president's approval ratings also have fallen to new lows in the Rasmussen Reports daily Presidential Tracking Poll.

Most voters (52%) now trust Republicans more on the issue of taxes, also the highest level found in over two years. Only 36% trust Democrats more on taxes. A survey conducted at the end of June found that 39% of voters now expect their taxes to go up under Obama, the highest level of concern measured to date.

On national security, Republicans hold a 49% to 40% lead over Democrats. That’s down from a 15-point lead last month.

For the second straight month, voters put North Korea at the top of the list of biggest threats to U.S. national security.

Republicans hold a four-point lead on the issue of the War in Iraq, down from an eight-point advantage in June.
Even though American troops have now pulled out of all cities in Iraq and still are on schedule to be completely withdrawn by the end of 2011, 64% of U.S. voters do not believe the war in Iraq is over.

The GOP has a 40% to 34% lead on the issue of immigration and is ahead 46% to 39% on abortion.
Republicans also edge out Democrats on government ethics and corruption for the second straight month, 34% to 33%. In June, the GOP held a six-point advantage on the issue.

Also for the first time in over two years, Republicans lead Democrats on the issue of Social Security 42% to 37%. Democrats held a six-point lead on the issue last month, and the parties were tied in April.

Democrats have also seen their leads shrink on two of the party’s strong points, health care and education. The party holds a four-point lead on health care, down from 18 points in May. The Democrats’ advantage on the issue is the smallest found in over two years.

Voters are evenly divided when it comes to the health care reform plans being promoted by the president and Democrats in Congress.

On education, Democrats lead Republicans 41% to 38%, also the smallest margin in over two years. Democrats held a 15-point lead in May on the issue.

Fifty-four percent (54%) of all voters say the average congressional Democrat is more liberal than they are, while 36% believe the average Republican congressman is more conservative in comparison to themselves. Just 44% say their own representative in Congress is about the same as them ideologically.

Republican candidates lead Democrats for the second straight week in the latest edition of the Generic Congressional Ballot. Support for the GOP remains unchanged this week - at its highest level over the past year, but support for Democrats dropped one point to tie its lowest level in the same time period

OK, so Michael Jackson's memorial was held today. He was a great entertainer. He created some incredible music and made an indelible mark on a generation of Americans.

Now he is dead.

Listening to the speakers, you would have thought MJ had created a cure for cancer. The hyperbole was so thick you could hardly breathe. Of course, Al Sharpton took full advantage of the situation as he does with just about every opportunity he can inject himself into.

But let's face it. Michael Jackson was weird; strange; curiously messed up. He bleached his skin; he tried to change his inner struggles with plastic surgery; he slept in the same bed with children that were not his own; he self indulged by spending multiple fortunes; and ultimately he used powerful drugs in inappropriate ways to get escape from his own demons. And it probably killed him.

Right now, MJ is no different than you and me. He has stood before God and faced his maker. I cannot judge the outcome. I hope that at some point MJ accepted Christ. The fact is God is not enthralled that MJ sold millions of albums.

Job had it right when he said,

"Naked I came from my mother's womb,
and naked I will depart.
The LORD gave and the LORD has taken away;
the name of the LORD be praised."

Despite all the fawning and platitudes heard today, none of that matters. Michael Jackson came into this world naked; and he left it the same way. Michael Jackson has bowed the knee before God despite the fact that thousands bowed to him today.

Today, VPOTUS Biden came out and admitted that the administration did not realize how bad the economy really was when they took office. Last week, Obama told us that even though the unemployment rate is now 9.5%, that it would be much worse without the stimulus that was passed. These statements reveal several things about how stupid they think you are.

First, why didn't they know how bad it was? Prior to the election, they ran on a platform that blamed Bush for the terrible economy and Obama talked about how many economists were behind his economic program. So, does this not reveal the incompetence of the administration to deal with problem? They promised that unemployment would not exceed 8% with the stimulus package. Now they are telling us that it will reach 10%.

Second, when the President admits they have been wrong in their assumptions, how can he then say that it would have been worse without the stimulus plan. This follows the same "jobs saved" logic that they use to try to mitigate the unemployment rate.

Let's face it. Obama thinks you are stupid. That you can easily be fooled. He thinks that if he uses the same nebulous Hope and Change message, which is nothing more than a slogan without a policy, that he can fool you into believing that the administration knows what they are doing.

Barrack Obama knows nothing about economics. He is incompetent. Had they done nothing, we would be in at least the same if not better shape than we are are in today.

He thinks you are stupid and that twisted economic logic will convince you that he is actually doing something. And if we continue to follow his leadership, we will certainly confirm his thinking.

The real truth behind cap and trade

A Wall Street Journal article explains the Cap and Trade program well. The most important aspect of cap and trade that they won't tell you is how much it will really cost you in the end.

The basic concept of the cap tax is to set a limit on the number of carbon emissions a company can produce. The government sets a limit based on per capita. The companies then purchase the permits or rights to emit carbon. If the company typically produces over that limit, they can purchase from companies that typically produce less than the limit. The cost is then passed on to the consumer.

In order to get the bill passed, the cap is set at a reasonable limit. Then, the cap is drastically reduced over time, making it nearly impossible to meet those standards. What then happens, the companies that can't reduce their carbon production have to buy more permits from other companies. The rules of supply and demand would allow the companies to sell their permits at the highest rate that the companies are willing to pay. Again, the cost is passed on to the consumer.

The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) analyzed the bill but only for a snapshot of the year 2020. The limit was set at such a rate that the CBO deemed the cost per family per year to be $175. And the CBO deemed no reduction in the GDP based on the limit in the year 2020. However, in order to get the bill passed, the limit was set so that the Congressman in the districts that would be hit the hardest would get on board.

The Heritage Foundation analysis of the bill looks at the economy as a whole. They claim that in the year 2020, the cost per family would be $1870 with increases up to $6800 by the year 2035.

The purpose of cap and trade is to reduce the number of carbon emissions. The costs will be seen in all things that are manufactured, including gas, food, energy, clothing. If consumers are spending less, companies will be producing less. That leads to cut backs, job loss, and higher unemployment. Who will be hit the hardest? That would be low income families who spend the majority of their earnings on energy costs.

The hardest hit area will be the Midwest, coal producing towns and smaller populated areas. The rate is based on per capita. California is the second largest carbon emitter in the nation, but it also has the highest per capita. The average person emits 12 tons of carbon. Wyoming and North Dakota respectively produce 154 and 95 tons per person.

There are provisions that the government will refund some of the revenues back to Americans. $400 per single person and $800 to families. According to the estimates, this won't begin to offset the actual out of pocket expenses.

Republicans offered three amendments to suspend the program if: 1) gas hit $5 per gallon. 2) electricity prices rise 10% over 2009 3) unemployment rate reaches 15%. The Democrats defeated all three.

It's not surprising that the least affected areas are the ones that are the most liberal. Cap and trade is the worst and largest tax Americans will face. Remember the campaign promise of no new taxes for 95% of Americans, or anyone making less than $250,000 a year? Wealthy people will only spend about 1.7% of their income toward the cap and trade tax. The middle to low income families will feel the brunt of this tax. All costs will be passed on to the consumer. Manufacturing industries will have to make cut backs on jobs to offset the reduced production.

President Bush, Hillary Clinton, Michael Moore and much of the mainstream media are incorrect when they claim the number of Americans without health insurance to be 40 to 50 million, with the actual number possibly under 10 million.

So says the Business and Media Institute, a Virginia-based division of the Media Research Center, a nonprofit watchdog organization designed to bring balance and responsibility to the media.

"The actual total is open to debate," says BMI analyst Julia Seymour. "But there are millions of people who should be excluded from that [high] tally, including: those who aren't American citizens, people who can afford their own insurance, and people who already qualify for government coverage but haven't signed up."

She notes government statistics also show 45 percent of people without insurance are not completely in dire straits, as they'll have coverage again within four months after switching jobs.

"Accounting for all those factors, one prominent study places the total for the long-term uninsured as low as 8.2 million – a very different reality than the media and national health care advocates claim," said Seymour.

The BMI report notes the number of the uninsured who are not U.S. citizens is nearly 10 million on its own, invalidating all the claims of 40-plus million "Americans" without health insurance.

In a May 31 speech, Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., said: "It's really indefensible that we now have more than 45 million uninsured Americans, 9 million of whom are children, and the vast majority of whom are from working families."

ABC News medical expert Dr. Tim Johnson cited the incorrect data as he praised a "bold" and "politically brilliant" universal health-coverage plan on the April 26 edition of "Good Morning America."

"It's bold because it does propose to cover all Americans, including the 47 million now who are uninsured, within five years," said Johnson.

Seymour also labeled Michael Moore's new film "SiCKO" as a "propagandumentary" and pointed out the director's website claims a very high number of uninsured: "There are nearly 50 million Americans without health insurance."

She says subtracting non-citizens and those who can afford their own insurance but choose not to purchase it, about 20 million people are left – less than 7 percent of the population.

"Many Americans are uninsured by choice," wrote Dr. David Gratzer in his book, "The Cure: How Capitalism Can Save American Health Care." Gratzer cited a study of the "nonpoor uninsured" from the California Healthcare Foundation.

"Why the lack of insurance [among people who own homes and computers]? One clue is that 60 percent reported being in excellent health or very good health," explained Gratzer.

"Proponents of universal health care often use the 46-million figure – without context or qualification. It creates the false impression that a huge percentage of the population has fallen through the cracks," Gratzer told BMI. "Again, that's not to suggest that there is no problem, but it's very different than the universal-care crowd describes."

The Kaiser Family Foundation, a nonprofit group often quoted in news reports, puts the number of uninsured Americans who do not qualify for current government programs and make less than $50,000 a year between 8.2 million and 13.9 million, far less than the mantra of 40 to 50 million.

“Having the government compete against the private sector is kind of like my seven-year-old daughter’s lemonade stand competing against McDonalds,” Congressman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.) said on Fox News Sunday.

Ryan argues that providing every American with a tax-free voucher specifically for the purchase of health insurance not only levels the playing field, but puts consumers in the position to make the health care choices that make sense to them.

The Midwest lawmaker’s Roadmap plan allows every American except those eligible for Medicare or military health care the option to receive a $2500 refundable tax credit for individuals and $5000 for families. The individual or family could apply the tax credit either to the purchase of an employer-sponsored plan or to another option that suits the individual/family.

Employers who continue to provide health coverage can continue to claim contributions as a business expense deduction.Ryan would retain the itemized 7.5 percent deduction for medical expenses for those who do not claim the new health care tax credit described above.

The congressman would also allow individuals to utilize the refundable tax credit toward the purchase of health insurance in any state. This is probably the most controversial part of the Ryan bill, says Wes Vernon, a Washington-based writer and veteran broadcast journalist.

Ryan’s own state of Wisconsin has insurance regulations that are more favorable than most, and as one business leader in the state has said, “Health plans sold in Wisconsin but regulated in other states are not in the best interests of Wisconsin businesses and consumers.” Obviously, a lot of disentanglement would have to take place there involving regulations that have taken root over the years in all 50 states, says Vernon, but this is an idea worth considering.

Today I was thinking about the people of Iran and the struggle they are experiencing against their tyrannical dictator. Obama has amazingly (or not) been silent in his support of those young Iranians who are placing their safety and futures on the line to push for legitimate democracy.

And then it occurred to me that while Obama loves to talk about Hope and Change, he never talks about Liberty and Freedom.

Obama is a socialist. This is clear.

Nazi Germany was a socialist state.

Socialism is antithetical to liberty. Socialism usurps freedom.

Socialism controls the means of production and those that produce. Freedom permits individuals to become producers and limits the barriers that would inhibit their success.

Socialism directs the destiny of the individual. Freedom permits the individual to determine their own destiny.

So why has Obama been so quiet?

Perhaps he sees what is happening in Iraq and understands that this could be a foretaste of what is about to happen in America in the not so distant future.

Leading the fight is Gunnery Sgt Michael Burghardt, known as 'Iron Mike' or just 'Gunny'. He is on his third tour in Iraq . He had become a legend in the bomb disposal world after winning the Bronze Star for disabling 64 IEDs and destroying 1,548 pieces of ordnance during his second tour.

Then, on September 19, he got blown up. He had arrived at a chaotic scene after a bomb had killed four US soldiers. He chose not to wear the bulky bomb protection suit. 'You can't react to any sniper fire and you get tunnel-vision,' he explains. So, protected by just a helmet and standard-issue flak jacket, he began what bomb disposal officers term 'the longest walk', stepping gingerly into a 5 foot deep and 8 foot wide crater..

The earth shifted slightly and he saw a Senao base station with a wire leading from it. He cut the wire and used his 7 inch knife to probe the ground. 'I found a piece of red detonating cord between my legs,' he says.. 'That's when I knew I was screwed.' Realizing he had been sucked into a trap, Sgt Burghardt, 35, yelled at everyone to stay back. At that moment, an insurgent, probably watching through binoculars, pressed a button on his mobile phone to detonate the secondary device below the sergeant's feet 'A chill went up the back of my neck and then the bomb exploded,' he recalls. 'As I was in the air I remember thinking, 'I don't believe they got me..' I was just ticked off they were able to do it. Then I was lying on the road, not able to feel anything from the waist down'

His colleagues cut off his trousers to see how badly he was hurt. None could believe his legs were still there 'My dad's a Vietnam vet who's paralyzed from the waist down,' says Sgt Burghardt. 'I was lying there thinking I didn't want to be in a wheelchair next to my dad and for him to see me like that. They started to cut away my pants and I felt a real sharp pain and blood trickling down. Then I wiggled my toes and I thought, 'Good, I'm in business.' As a stretcher was brought over, adrenaline and anger kicked in. 'I decided to walk to the helicopter. I wasn't going to let my team-mates see me being carried away on a stretcher.' He stood and gave the insurgents who had blown him up a one-fingered salute. 'I flipped them one. It was like, 'OK, I lost that round but I'll be back next week'.'

Copies of a photograph depicting his defiance, taken by Jeff Bundy for the Omaha World-Herald, adorn the walls of homes across America and that of Col John Gronski, the brigade commander in Ramadi, who has hailed the image as an exemplar of the warrior spirit.

Sgt Burghardt's injuries - burns and wounds to his legs and buttocks - kept him off duty for nearly a month and could have earned him a ticket home. PRINCETON, NJ -- Thus far in 2009, 40% of Americans interviewed in national Gallup Poll surveys describe their political views as conservative, 35% as moderate, and 21% as liberal. This represents a slight increase for conservatism in the U.S. since 2008, returning it to a level last seen in 2004. The 21% calling themselves liberal is in line with findings throughout this decade, but is up from the 1990s.

These annual figures are based on multiple national Gallup surveys conducted each year, in some cases encompassing more than 40,000 interviews. The 2009 data are based on 10 separate surveys conducted from January through May. Thus, the margins of error around each year's figures are quite small, and changes of only two percentage points are statistically significant.

To measure political ideology, Gallup asks Americans to say whether their political views are very conservative, conservative, moderate, liberal, or very liberal. As has been the case each year since 1992, very few Americans define themselves at the extremes of the political spectrum. Just 9% call themselves "very conservative" and 5% "very liberal." The Real Problem

We all must admit that America has problems, serious ones. The economy is the one that has everybody's attention right now, but the two wars we're fighting are not going away, the drug cartels in Mexico threaten our border towns, the education system is and has been bogged down in politics and our inner city streets have become jungles where only the predators dare to show their faces after dark and, as you know, the list goes and on.

We put the blame for our problems mostly on politics, trying in vain to elect someone or some party who has the answers to the myriad of ills befalling this nation and we can go on doing that until the Rocky Mountains are worn down to a nub and never get anywhere, until we face the truth.

The problems in this country come from one simple failing, we have turned our backs on Almighty God. We have become a nation of politically correct wimps who get lead around by the nose by a handful of dedicated liberal globalists who are determined to turn this country into a Godless secular socialist state where the elite rule and live like kings and the rest of us do what we're told.

In retrospect, we all see that our current financial mess was caused by greed and by politicians who either didn't know or didn't care about what happened to America as long as they could stay in power.

It is becoming common in this nation to call good evil and evil good and there's a specific warning about that in the Holy Bible and if you don't believe the Holy Bible is the truth, you may as well stop reading this piece because you're fixing to get a big dose of the same.

We refuse to acknowledge evil, we always have an excuse for someone's bad behavior.

We blame horrible crimes on environment. Well, environment is never going to change as long as society condones things like unwed births, children having children, children who had no home lives themselves bringing other children into the world to be raised on meager welfare checks, and left to run wild in the streets, never even knowing who their fathers are.

Do you want to put a stop to this America? It's simple. In this day of DNA, indentifying the father of a child is easy.

There should be a federal law that whoever fathers a child supports the needs of that child until they reach the age of majority.No excuses, no exceptions. If the father is on drugs let him go cold turkey in a jail cell until he kicks the habit and then he goes to work. If he runs, he goes right back to jail and stays there working on a road gang until he decides he wants to get serious about supporting the children he's fathered.

It's called personal responsibility, and it's sorely missing in America today.

You want to clean up the neighborhoods? Take the drug dealers down hard. Take the gloves off our police forces and if that includes some bloodshed, so be it. You live by the sword you die by it.

You want to make education better? There's a foolproof way. Just start passing out school vouchers and let the free market control the quality of education as parents choose schools they feel are best suited for their children. The teacher's unions will never improve education, because with them, it's not about education, it's about politics and power.

We abort millions of babies in this nation every year and call it choice. That's the danger of political correctness, when you can change the name of wanton murder to something as innocent as choice.

There are states making same sex marriage legal, the new administration is approving the use of the unborn in stem cell research -even though adult stem cells seem to be what really holds promise- and nobody knows where that is going to lead.

The Al Gore crowd screams "global warming" as if man could control the climate and tides, perpetrating a lie that is nothing more than another step toward globalism.

The media promotes living together out of wedlock and X-rated pornography cable channels flourish.

A smidgen of Atheists push the courts around and force their will on the majority of Americans in the name of fairness. Where is the fairness?

Let's take a look at the cold hard truth.

This nation was not founded by Atheists, Buddhists, Hindus, Muslims or Satan worshippers. This nation was found and founded by Christians and our values are based on Judeo-Christian beliefs.

While our law allows for any person to worship any god they want to in this country, the founders and framers of the federal papers only acknowledged one. The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, Jehovah, The Great I Am; commonly acknowledged by Christians and Jews as the only true God.

America was founded on this belief and the further we get away from it the more dangerous our future becomes.

In my humble opinion it's time for America to take it's medicine, a huge dose of unvarnished, untainted, undiluted gospel truth.

A note to you cherry pickers, save your breath.

Pray for our troops, and for our country.

Oil Prices Doubled Since Inauguration, Will Media Blame Obama?

Virtually every time oil and gasoline prices rose when George W. Bush was in the White House, his policies and/or his connections to folks in the oil industry were blamed by newsrooms from coast to coast.

Yet, even though oil has doubled in price since Inauguration Day, with retail gas prices up $0.75 a gallon, you'd be hard-pressed to find reports blaming these spikes on President Obama or anything he's done since taking office.

Why?

Before you answer, take a look at the following crude oil chart:

On January 19, crude was $34.78. On Friday, it closed at $68.44, a virtual doubling in only four and a half months.

Although oil prices certainly rose during the Bush years, there was never such a fast doubling as what we've seen since Inauguration Day.

As for prices at the pump, the national average was $1.85/gallon on January 19. Today's average is $2.60.

But that doesn't tell the entire story, for the wholesale gas price was about $1.10 before Inauguration Day. With its $1.95 close on Friday, Americans could be seeing $3 at the pump soon; we in California already are.

With this in mind, given the constant lambasting Bush used to get concerning rising energy prices, will Obama and his policies be similarly blamed?

Or will this be another thing the Obama-loving press gives him a pass for?

It seems like our nation and our world are rapidly deteriorating. Our economic and cultural fiber seem to be unravelling with each news day. We all want our nation to do well, but it seems that things appear to be getting worse and worse. This brought to mind the second coming of Jesus. Which brought to mind Matthew 24. So I thought I would post the passage to give those of us who believe, some perspective on what Jesus had to say about the state of our world prior to His coming. Remind yourself that our treasure is in heaven and this world is temporary and will pass away....

Signs of the End of the Age

1Jesus left the temple and was walking away when his disciples came up to him to call his attention to its buildings. 2"Do you see all these things?" he asked. "I tell you the truth, not one stone here will be left on another; every one will be thrown down."

15"So when you see standing in the holy place 'the abomination that causes desolation,'[b] spoken of through the prophet Daniel—let the reader understand— 16then let those who are in Judea flee to the mountains. 17Let no one on the roof of his house go down to take anything out of the house. 18Let no one in the field go back to get his cloak. 19How dreadful it will be in those days for pregnant women and nursing mothers! 20Pray that your flight will not take place in winter or on the Sabbath. 21For then there will be great distress, unequaled from the beginning of the world until now—and never to be equaled again. 22If those days had not been cut short, no one would survive, but for the sake of the elect those days will be shortened. 23At that time if anyone says to you, 'Look, here is the Christ!' or, 'There he is!' do not believe it. 24For false Christs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and miracles to deceive even the elect—if that were possible. 25See, I have told you ahead of time.

26"So if anyone tells you, 'There he is, out in the desert,' do not go out; or, 'Here he is, in the inner rooms,' do not believe it. 27For as lightning that comes from the east is visible even in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. 28Wherever there is a carcass, there the vultures will gather.

and the moon will not give its light;

30"At that time the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and all the nations of the earth will mourn. They will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of the sky, with power and great glory. 31And he will send his angels with a loud trumpet call, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the heavens to the other.

32"Now learn this lesson from the fig tree: As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 33Even so, when you see all these things, you know that it[d]is near, right at the door. 34I tell you the truth, this generation[e] will certainly not pass away until all these things have happened. 35Heaven and earth will pass away, but my words will never pass away.

The Day and Hour Unknown

36"No one knows about that day or hour, not even the angels in heaven, nor the Son,[f] but only the Father. 37As it was in the days of Noah, so it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 38For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; 39and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man. 40Two men will be in the field; one will be taken and the other left. 41Two women will be grinding with a hand mill; one will be taken and the other left.
42"Therefore keep watch, because you do not know on what day your Lord will come. 43But understand this: If the owner of the house had known at what time of night the thief was coming, he would have kept watch and would not have let his house be broken into. 44So you also must be ready, because the Son of Man will come at an hour when you do not expect him.

45"Who then is the faithful and wise servant, whom the master has put in charge of the servants in his household to give them their food at the proper time? 46It will be good for that servant whose master finds him doing so when he returns. 47I tell you the truth, he will put him in charge of all his possessions. 48But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, 'My master is staying away a long time,' 49and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards. 50The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. 51He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
